I made a lame little comic. Hah what is character consistency?
If you think about it Darkstripe/paw must have had a tough an apprenticeship as Ravenpaw, except instead of avoiding Tigerclaw he went and gained his approval. Still a bad guy, though. It seems all the villains get (pretty similar, at least in Thunderclan) tragic backstories.

Yes, Darkstripe had really no redeeming qualities, but at the end of his life I felt pity for him when he said that everything was gone, there was nothing left.
Tigerstar had been such an influence on him that he couldn't face life without his great leader ... even if said leader had little use and respect for him. And when both Tigerstar and Darkstripe are in the DF it gets even worse! Honestly it made me a bit angry how dismissive everyone was towards him.
